Results

Redesigned the Vamos Outreach app to enhance usability and simplify data customization, while also refreshing its look. These changes aim to improve outreach workers' planning and outreach efforts. Currently conducting user testing to measure the impact of the new design.

Overview

Vamos Outreach is designed to support farmworker outreach from start to finish. Vamos is used by farmworker organizations across the country, making it easier to plan routes, document visit details, and follow up with administrative reporting. Vamos was built in collaboration with farmworker organizations by Code the Dream.

Challenge

How might we improve the Vamos Outreach app by optimizing the information architecture, making web and mobile versions consistent, highlighting its powerful customization tools, and understanding different user needs, all while ensuring it remains effective for farmworker outreach? Our challenge is to streamline the app's design and enhance its usability without compromising its core functionality.

Solution

  • Gathered information from stakeholders, conducted 8 user interviews, and performed competitor analysis

  • Integrated into the product team, mentored 2 design apprentices, created a design roadmap

  • Based on research insights, I planned on focusing on the user journey by simplifying navigation, surfacing hidden customization features, removing unnecessary UI elements, and implementing a consistent design system across the app.

  • Refined user flows, created sketches and wireframes, and initiated design system

  • Established 2-week design sprints and utilized Jira for task management

  • Maintained communication through regular standups and weekly management meetings

  • Addressed edge cases and ensured cross-app compatibility with developers

Conclusion

  • Fixed early teamwork issues by iterating our processes

  • Helped new designers implement design principles, grow their Figma skills, and feel more confident with their design decisions

  • Refreshed the app's look, getting the team excited to bring the new design to life

  • In the process of testing the new design with users
